The story of PowerHouse

The story of PowerHouse Church would not be complete without first telling you about its senior pastors, Desmond and Sandy Frey, and the journey which has brought them to their role as pastors here today.

The two met at RHEMA Bible College, where they both eagerly sought to discover the call of God for their lives. They were soon married and set off to the mission field in Africa, where they served for 6 years, building and equipping local churches and missions in South Africa and Zimbabwe. In 1991, they moved back to the United States with their 3 children, where they would spend the next 9 years serving in various churches, gaining experience in ministry, and working in the corporate sector.

While they were more than happy to continue serving in the US, they could not escape the passion in their heart for missions, and in 2000, Desmond had a clear call from the Lord that it was time to return to his home country of Switzerland to pioneer a local church, and reach the continent of Europe for the cause of Christ.

With their now 4 children, the Frey family moved to Europe, where they began to build what we now know as PowerHouse Church. The church had its official start in 2005, with just a small group of faithful believers in a hotel conference room, which had the heart to see the Gospel impact the country of Switzerland, and it has now grown into a thriving local church with all kinds of families and individuals who have been transformed by the message of the Gospel.

PowerHouse has grown immensely since that small group of friends in 2005, and we are so excited for what is to come in the years ahead for our church!

Our purpose at PowerHouse is:

"To reach people with the life-giving message of Jesus so that they can become fully devoted followers of Christ."

We filter every idea, program, and budget request through our purpose statement. If what we plan doesn’t help us meet our purpose, then we don’t do it. Our statement of purpose is based on two teachings of Jesus:

Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Matthew 22:36-40 NIV

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe…” Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

Mark 16:15-17, 20 NIV
